Testicular cancer - Not awkward anymore

By Dr. Ameenuddin Khan |

There is a certain amount of awkwardness when it comes to discussing about cancer.... particularly when it comes to discussing about problems related to our private organs.... Eg Breast cancers in women and testicular cancer in men.

One thing we should realise is.... It may be a private issue to us....but its a problem many people in the community may have and when it has implications on life, livelihood and quality of life....it becomes a community issue.

Once we realise this.....we know that it's a common problem and a problem which we can discuss with others and perhaps find help in unknown corners.

Being aware makes it all the more easy.

Lets talk about testicular cancer awareness today as this is testicular cancer month now

I want to highlight just 3 points

1. Cancer of the young 15 to 35- young people may be shy but we are not stupid - we prefer science over silence - speak up - seek professional help

2. That brings us to the second point - when to seek help Presents as a lump in the testes How do pick it up - a simple shower check every month - 30s of self exam - checking yourself is not weird - it's part of being a man who cares for his future

So what do we check for - Look for a change in size of the testes - one may be bigger than the other - cancerous swelling are usually painless - u may still have a dull aching pain or feeling - if any these signs are noticed - don't Google - talk to family first - brother , friend and then seek for a doctors help

Caught early , get treated early

3. Lastly 3rd and the most important point. )START TALKING - You might just save a life by making a difficult conversation a little easier.

Cancer is not a life sentance, it's a life lesson. JUST LIKE ANY OTHER LESSON IN LIFE. FIGHTING IT ONLY MAKES YOU BRAVE.

Stay healthy, stay proactive and TAKE CARE.
